Summer is the perfect time to schedule annual doctor visits and tests for the whole family, but especially for kids. Whether your child is joining a junior sports league or heading off to sleepaway camp, it’s likely that they will need documentation of a physical exam prior to the start of the camp or season. And by getting pediatric visits, immunizations, and other preventive exams completed now, you can also help your child be ready for the new school year.
In the fall things can really pick up! There can be an end-of year rush to schedule preventive exams, school sport exams, flu shots and Covid boosters, and more. But you can skip the line, make sure you can get an appointment at a time that works for you, and avoid pulling kids out of school, by scheduling annual exams now.

Tips for What to Expect During a Child’s Physical Exam
Here are a few things to help you and your child be ready for child’s physical exam appointment:
- Be sure to bring with you any forms from sports teams, camps, or school for the medical staff to fill out
- Bring a list of current prescriptions, supplements, and allergies
- Be ready to answer questions about the child’s diet, sleep habits, and activity level
- Let your child know ahead of time what to expect. During an exam a doctor might:
- Measure their current height and weight
- Take their vital signs such as body temperature, heart rate and blood pressure
- Check their posture, flexibility and joints
- Physically assess the health of their eyes, nose, ears, lungs and heart
- Remind them that this is important for their health, and you’ll be there with them
