Bill Threatens Small Business Tax Exemption for Paid Family and Medical Leave

According to the Legislative Report from the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce — the plan sponsor for Business Health Trust — a House Bill could end the small business exemption for Washington state’s Paid Family and Medical Leave tax.

House Bill 1959 passed out of the House Labor and Workplace Standards Committee on January 26, and has been referred to the House Appropriations Committee. The bill, which would extend parts of the Paid Family and Medical Leave program to employers with fewer than 50 employees, has not yet been scheduled for a public hearing.
